Earlier this month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Ad Hoc a place on the Medicare Payment System Modernization (MPSM) Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). In a field of 73 bidders, Ad Hoc was awarded one of six spots on the BPA. We’re thrilled for the opportunity to continue serving CMS as they improve the systems that enable them to deliver critical services to millions of Americans.
The MPSM program plans to modernize the Medicare Fee-For-Service shared systems, which collectively process 1.2 billion claims per year, amounting to nearly $400 billion. This system is at the center of the process that determines if and how Medicare claims are paid.
This BPA allows Ad Hoc the opportunity to continue bringing our technical expertise to CMS’ modernization mission. Currently, we work with CMS across a number of programs including the Quality Payment Program and HealthCare.gov. For both projects, Ad Hoc has brought our product management, human-centered design and research, and agile development skills to a broad range of public-facing products and tools.
Ad Hoc’s approach to this effort is to help CMS evaluate components of the Fee-For-Service system and improve them one at a time. The work will need to balance designing each component to meet the needs of users while ensuring the system can continue to function throughout the modernization process. We’ve found this process to be the best way to make major changes while limiting risk, and it’s the idea behind Play 11 in the Ad Hoc Government Digital Services Playbook. We hope this project will help CMS develop the tools and experience necessary to keep improving their systems for years to come.
We also see the MPSM project as an opportunity to continue Ad Hoc’s work on social infrastructure, which is the services the public collectively pays for that enable people to live healthier, happier lives. In order for CMS to continue to effectively serve the nearly 60 million Americans that rely on Medicare, they need to have a full suite of modern, adaptable systems ready to meet changing needs and requirements. Ad Hoc is honored to have the opportunity to support CMS on this project.
