Saying goodbye to middleware, or retiring homework for fun and freshness

Today is a bittersweet day for Ad Hoc Engineering, as we fully retire middleware, one of our Engineering homework assignments. Middleware was replaced in our homework pools for engineering positions by noclist back in May, but we wanted to give anyone who may have had a solution in-progress time to complete the assignment.

As we discussed in our previous post on the homework process, we always want our evaluation process to map closely to the work we do on a daily basis. One of the portions of daily work that is hard to implement in a recruiting process is feedback, but retiring the assignment presents us with an opportunity to provide feedback to folks who have done the assignment broadly. To accomplish this, we have released our reference answer to the assignment, which has been annotated by engineer Brian King to point out common issues that we have seen in submissions.
